Green Light http://www.kstroke.com/projects/nerdy/green_light.php Steve Song - kstroke@kstroke.com ============================= Installation ============================= OS: Windows Windows Media Player: Version 9 or greater Google Desktop Version: 3 or greater Double-click Green Light.msi to install the plug-in. Uninstall the plug-in through the Add or Remove Programs action in the Windows control panel. ============================= Usage ============================= Choose the file to check, including path, and how often the plug-in should check for the file's existence. The red light displays if the file does not exist and the green light displays if it does. To check that a website or webpage is available, simply enter the URL. Any string that starts with "http" (without the quotes) will be interpreted as a website. ============================= Known Issues ============================= Funny things happen when you remove and add the plug-in without first stopping the checking. Basically, it acts like a separate copy of the plug-in is running. If you change the file the plug-in is supposed to check, it checks both. If not, you get multiple notifications of the state change. I've tried a number of ways to get around this, but I think the only way is to upgrade to Google Desktop 3 and for me to use a new function that's available in that version. WORKAROUND - exit Google Desktop and restart. That kills the previous incarnations of the plug-in. ============================= Version History ============================= v.1.2 - Added website checking. v.1.1 - Added cleanup functionality introduced in GD3 v.1 - Created. Yay.
