My system is either the DAV-S300 or the DAV-S400 (don't have it right in front of me now) and a combination of cleaning the lens and letting it rest (in case the problem was also something overheating) has worked everytime for me. It's currently playing new and old DVDs without any trouble.

I got a laser lens cleaner and ran it for 30 seconds or so in my DVD player. The lens cleaner I got looks like a cd, but it has a little brush on the side the player reads. Since I posted this, I've had to run the cleaner about twice. It fixes the problem every time for me so far.
